YOUR DREAMS IN FOCUS

In life we all have dreams or if you prefer ‘goals’ that we want to focus on and achieve. Over time they change and as we conquer them we then create new ones. Along the journey, though, we experience moments of feeling overwhelmed and doubt starts to creep in. We start listening to our ego and float along that conversation that eats away at our confidence and starts to create scenarios where the dream no longer seems possible.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN THIS SITUATION? DO YOU LET IT SLIP AWAY OR DO YOU IMPLEMENT SOME STRATEGIES TO REFOCUS ON THAT PURPOSE, THAT DREAM OR THAT GOAL THAT YOU SET YOUR HEART ON?

For me, I’m currently working on a project very close to my heart but it is testing me. Making me question the validity of where I am heading and creating doubt as to whether it will succeed or not. During times like these, I use a poem I wrote many years ago that continuously gets me to refocus and believe again in what I started out wanting to do. It came to me in the middle of the night and I have posted my Dream poem before. For me it takes me back to that time of my life where I followed a dream and it tested me all the way.  What I learned from it was not able to be measured in dollars but rather the experience which has enriched me to be who I am today.

So for me, whenever I start feeling overwhelmed and doubt my capabilities to achieve, I pull out this poem and it sets me straight again for a while. For me, it’s the best poetry I have ever written and the piece I’m most proud of. It lifts me every time I read it and gets me refocused on what I need to do.

WHAT IS YOUR STRATEGY?

Do you have a poem or a quote that gets you back on track? For some it can be a song – the lyrics or the beat.  I have images of  the ‘rocky’ theme song doing it for some of you.

A mentor can do it too. Is there someone you look up to and want to aspire to be? Reading about them might get you to focus again too. Steve Jobs was a great figure of success and the most powerful thing I ever read about him were the last words he spoke before he died. The importance of love and that once you have accumulated enough to live the rest of your days… ‘to pursue objectives that are not related to wealth’. I believe this is where our real dreams lie, our true purpose in life.

For others it’s taking time out to meditate or exercise. To quieten the mind and allow ourselves to hear the messages from our true selves, to speak the language of success and banish the voice of doubt.

So don’t delay, if you are feeling overwhelmed, use a strategy to refocus on that powerful dream that fuels your passion and gives life purpose. You may have your own strategy and I would love to hear it and for you to share it in the comments below. By sharing our knowledge we help each other to succeed and when we all succeed we all enjoy a better life. Whatever you do don’t ignore the feelings and do something before you let it get a hold of you and convince you to let go of your goal.

Dare to dream and follow through. Show your courage and your brilliance by continuously refocusing those dreams and pushing through one day at a time with confidence that your purpose has value. If you don’ have a strategy, feel free to use my poem if it helps you refocus on your dreams too.
